Pars and Petrahn take top honours at Hungary's 110th birthday
On the night of the Hungarian Athletic Federation's 110 year celebrations, Hammer thower, Krisztian Pars and 400m runner, Barbara Petrahn, were awarded the honour of Hungarian Athlete of the Year.
25-year-old Pars, who has risen through the European Junior and U23 ranks (claiming gold at each level) is now a serious senior competititor. Currently ranked sixth in the World, Pars' impressive 80.93m Osaka throw, saw him finish fifth on the World stage and now all of Hungary will be rooting for their national strongman in Beijing. Barbara Petrahn, Hungarian national record holder in the 400m, 300m and the 600y events was delighted to be crowned female Athlete of the Year, while throwing specialist, Pal Nemeth, took the Coach of the Year Award.
