Time to relax - Valerie Vili IAAF Online Diary

Valerie Vili

World champion and World Athletics Final runner up Valerie Vili has finally come to the end of a very long but fantastic season which saw her become her country's second gold medal winner at the IAAF World Championships with a new Oceania record 20.54m.

"Well I have finally got back to New Zealand after an awesome but very tiring trip!!!

"After the World Championships I went directly to Germany and settled into accommodation at the Training Centre at Kienbaum, which is about an hour’s drive from Berlin. It was a pretty sweet village, near to training facilities, and I liked the area.

"I competed in Thum, Germany where I threw 19.24m to win the competition, and followed this up with a win in Rovereto, Italy (19.65m) just a couple of days later. This result in Rovereto gave me some more World Athletics Tour points and I ended up getting a wild card into the World Athletics Final in Stuttgart.

"It’s pretty difficult for me to gain the necessary points to qualify for this event as there are only a few scoring events in my home region and they don’t always have the Shot Put on the schedule of events.
