World record holder Lysenko fails drugs test

Tatyana Lysenko

Russia's world record hammer thrower Tatiana Lysenko has failed a drugs test, the ITAR-TASS news agency reported, quoting a letter from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Lysenko, 23, tested positive for a women's hormone blocker on May 9.

The substance was however not on WADA's banned drugs' list.

Russian national athletics head coach Valery Kulichenko refused to comment on the case until after the athlete's 'B' sample was tested.

Lysenko set the world record of 78.61 metres on May 26 in Sochi.

Another hammer thrower Yekaterina Khoroshikh, who won the junior European championships in 2005, also tested positive for the same medication on May 9.
