Wind also effects performances at European Athletics Permit Meeting in Istanbul

Esref Apak

Turkish hammer thrower Esref Apak was the star performer at the 62nd European Athletics Permit Meeting, the Cezmi Or Memorial in Istanbul last night.

Apak won a high quality competition with a throw of 75.61m while his teammate Nevin Yanit took the 100 m Hurdles clocking a legal 13.21.

In front of a large crowd, the sizeable Romanian contingent took a number of the spoils with Adelina Gavrila showing serious potential when winning the Triple Jump in a windy 14.26 (+2.6).

Angela Morosanu clocked 56.31 to win the 400 m Hurdles and Liliana Popescu was a shade outside two minutes when winn ing the 800m in 2:01.96.

Romania also provided the surprise winner of the 100m as Florin Suciu emerged the fastest of the three races with a windy 10.39 (+3.0).

There was also an impressive win for Slovenian record holder Damjan Zlatnar, who completely dominated the 110mH winning in a legal 13.71.
