Singh takes Shot Put gold for India
Satyendra Kumar Singh of India reached a career best and meet record 19.17m in the Shot Put to highlight the second day of the Asian Indoor Championships in Tehran on Thursday (25). The 23-year-old revealed that a training stint in Great Britain last year enabled him to improve his technique rapidly and he has already set his next goal, a medal in the Commonwealth Games to be held at New Delhi in October. It was indeed a good jump for Singh from his fifth place finish at Doha two years ago. Kuwait’s Mohammad Mashari (18.78m) and Iranian Hamid Reza Farahani (18.58m) filled out the podium behind Singh. Hundreds of fans joined together to sing the Iranian national anthem after Hadi Sephrzad took the men’s Heptathlon gold with 5292 points ahead of teammate Abdul Jalil (5054). Sephrzad was second at the last edition of the championships with 5515 points when India’s P.J. Vinod took the title in 5561. This time around Vinod finished third. Shot Put: 1.
