Kanter keeps clean slate at European Athletics Outdoor Premium Meeting in Luzern
Kanter cleared a relatively under-par 67.31m to take the men's title ahead of Hungarian Zoltan Kovago, who finished with 65.27m. Local star Nicole Büchler, fresh from her silver medal at the World University Games in Belgrade with a national record of 4.50m, gave the audience plenty to cheer about by taking the second spot behind American Lacy Johnson. Both athletes cleared 4.45m but Büchler lost out on count back. Compatriot Nicole Zihlmann won the Hammer with a season-best throw of 56.50m. Angela Morosanu from Roamnia beat a strong field in the women's 400m hurdles clocking 54.82sec to finish ahead of reigning world champion Jana Pittman-Rawlinson. Pittman-Rawlinson also clocked a season best of 55.34 on her comeback trail. Morosanu's 54.82sec is the third best time among European athletes this season. Beijing silver medallist Sally McLellan of Australia won the 100m hurdles in 12.73sec ahead of world indoor champion Lolo Jones's 12.92sec. Jamaican Isa Phillips scored his fourth win in Europe this season clocking 48.66sec in the 400m hurdles. He was followed closely by American Michael Tinsley who clocked 48.69 for second place. David Greene from Great Britain, the fastest 400 metres hurdler in Europe this year, was third with 48.62. Lisa Dobriskey from Great Britain won the women's 1500m virtually unchallenged with a season-best 4:08.35. Irish Deirdre Byrne also produced a season-best 4:10.35 to finish third behind American Morgan Useni who registered 4:09.95. |
