Kozmus and Sestak voted best in Slovenia

Olympic Hammer champion Primoz Kozmus was voted as the Slovenian Male Athlete of the Year 2008. The 29-year-old, who fetched Slovenia its first ever Olympic gold medal at Beijing, won the top award for the second year in a succession.

Marija Sestak, Olympic Triple Jump finalist bagged the coveted award in the female category.

In a poll conducted by National Athletics Federation of Slovenia, Kozmus, who also won silver medal at the World Championship in Osaka, got 275 points more than High Jumper and Olympic finalist Rozle Prezelj. Sprinter Matic Osovnikar finished a distant third with 62 points.

At the ceremony, Kozmus re-iterated that his main goal for the year 2009 will be to attempt breaking the world record.

Sestak, who won the bronze medal at World Indoor Championship in Valencia earlier this year, garnered 268 points to finish ahead of 800m runner Brigita Langerholc and middle distance runner Sonja Roman.

The 29-year-old also won a bronze at the 2008 World Athletics Final in Stuttgart in September. She also hold the Slovenian national Triple Jump record.
