Vasilevskis wins the Janis Lusis Cup at European Athletics Permit Meeting in Riga
This special event included within the Riga timetable to celebrate Latvia's three time European Javelin Champion Janis Lusis, who dominated the sport throughout the late 1960's and early 70's, saw Vasilevskis throw 84.90m to beat Koyals (83.90) and Haatainen (81.18). In the other throw events, former Olympic Champion Szymon Ziolkowski of Poland produced a solid 77.37m Hammer throw, while his countryman Marcin Starzak won the Long Jump in 7.90m. In cold weather, Germany's Daniel Schelting ran the 200m in 20.80 (+0.8) to beat former double World Championships finalist Aziz Zakari of Ghana (20.81) who also ran the 100m in a fast 10.22 (+0.9). Sinta Ozolina was the star of the women's events collecting another home win in the Javelin with her 56.09m throw. Estonian Long Jump record holder Ksenija Balta reached 6.76m (+2.3), to beat Slovakia's Jana Veldakova (6.54m +2.2). World Indoor 800m medallist Tetyana Petlyuk of Ukraine ran a highly tactical race to win in 2:08.77, and Britain's Anyika Onuora was best over the 200m (23.44, +0.6) |
