South African camp conclusion by Vésteinn Hafsteinsson
31. January 07
We just came home from Pretoria, RSA for the fourth year in a row. Gerd Kanter, Kim Christensen, Nick Petersen, Raigo Toompuu and Indrek Tustit were there with me this time.
The Trainingcamp was good.
Gerd threw his best technical throws ever with discus and is throwing between 66-69m all the time in no wind. That looks good. Then at the same time he is big and strong. Indrek his new Physio is working hard on him to keep him healthy from the back problems he got last year.
Raigo Toompuu that is the new trainingpartner for Gerd instead of Märt Israel that went to school in a America had a great camp. Threw over 19m in the shot in practice and did all kinds of PRs in the weight room. I think he is going to qualify for EC Indoors 19.30m and then throw 20m outdoors.
Kim Christensen had a breakthrough on this camp. He did PRs in everything. Threw for the first time over 19m in practice and we changed his start that I believe is going to get him over 20m this year. Great camp for Kim and I cannot wait to see how it goes for him indoors. He is already qualified for the EC Indoors.
Nick Petersen keeps surprising me. Threw over 17m with the big shot as well as he threw many times over 50m in the discus in no wind that is going to make him the best discusthrower in Denmark this year. Then Nick did some good PRs in the weightroom.
Great camp. Omar El Ghazaly and Christian Scherwin stayed home at this time but will join us in San Diego in April.
