Men's Javelin trio leads Team Finland to Beijing

Tero Pitkamäki

The Finnish Athletic Federation has selected 20 athletes to represent their country in the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing. Though comparatively small in size, the team includes seven previous major championship medallists and has high hopes for success in China.

Once again, the highest expectations are loaded on the shoulders of men's Javelin trio Tero Pitkämäki, Tero Järvenpää and Teemu Wirkkala, who are all placed in the top-10 on this year's World list.

Besides 2007 World Champion Pitkämäki, the team's hopes include Tommi Evilä (2005 World Long Jump bronze medallist), Frantz Kruger (2000 Olympic Discus bronze medallist), European Athletics Athlete Commission Chairwoman Javelin thrower Mikaela Ingberg (1995 World bronze medallist, 1998 and 2002 European bronze medallist) Janne Holmén (2002 European Champion in the Marathon), Jukka Keskisalo (2006 European Champion in the 3,000m Steeplechase), and Olli-Pekka Karjalainen (2006 European Hammer silver medallist).
