Kanter to speak at Discus Conference in Talinn
31. July 08
Estonia's 2007 World Discus Champion Gerd Kanter will be among the featured speakers at the 1st European Discus Conference, entitled "Breaking the Myths", in Talinn, September 17-18.
The conference, which will be hosted by the Estonian Athletics Association (Eesti Kergejöustikuliit) and insurance company ERGO and supported by European Athletics, is expected to attract more than 100 coaches from Europe and around the world. The programme will cover training, technique, lifestyle management and other topics related to high-level performance in the Discus.
Following the final presentation, the participants will attend the second edition of the ERGO World Discus Challenge at Talinn's Kadrioru Stadium. The event will pit three throwers from each of the year's six top Discus nations in a unique competition to find the best Discus team of 2008.
Joining Kanter on the initial list of confirmed conference speakers is Vesteinn Hafsteinsson (ISL), who has coached Kanter since 2001, biomechanist Aadu Krevauld, PhD (EST) and nutritionist Mihkel Zilmer MD (EST).
Additional experts will be included in the programme over the coming weeks and it is expected that a number of top international throwers from the competition will take part in a roundtable discussion during the conference.
