ERGO to provide additional support for Gerd Kanter’s Olympic preparations 19. June 08

A cooperation agreement has been signed between Estonia’s number one discus thrower Gerd Kanter, ERGO and the Estonian Athletics Association which will see ERGO providing half a million kroons for Kanter’s Olympic preparations.

The agreement was signed immediately prior to the Tallinn 2008 athletics championships. As one of the major sponsors of the Estonian Athletics Association, ERGO decided to provide additional support to ensure that the preparations for the Beijing Olympics of Estonia’s greatest gold medal hope go as well as possible. “It’s only natural as a supporter of the sport that we would get behind one of its true champions,” said Marek Začek, a member of the board of ERGO. “It’s with great pleasure that we’ve finally put the verbal agreement we’ve had for so long in writing, and at a time when Gerd needs every bit of support he can get if he is to achieve his goals. We believe in his abilities and his desire to go all the way at the Olympics. At the same time, our promise to reward the world record thrower in ERGOmetres stands. And of course we hope it will be Gerd!”

“On the one hand this contract provides security and freedom of action. On the other hand ERGOmeter creates a great stimulus. What could be better!” said Gerd Kanter.

In addition to its sponsorship, ERGO also announced at the start of the discus season the prize it will award to the person who sets a new world record in the sport, thus continuing the tradition the company began last year. The basis for determining the prize sum will be the innovative ‘ERGOmetre’ system, which calculates the length of a throw and the level of competition. ERGOmetres have so far been and will continue to be measured at almost 30 international competitions forming part of this athletics season featuring Estonia’s Olympic gold medal hope and potential record breaker Gerd Kanter. The value of one ERGOmetre starts at 100 US dollars and goes up to as much as 1500 US dollars per metre of world record throw.
